Swivel push fork for picking up metal boxes

Your company is undergoing conversion work and you need to use the space in the warehouse wherever and however you can? We know our customers’ problems and work with them to find the optimum solution, as the following example shows:

A customer from Austria picks up metal boxes with champagne bottles from the floor using a forklift truck and should place them sideways into a vibrator to save space. This task is currently carried out using pedestrian stackers or front stackers, but these require correspondingly large aisle widths. Due to conversion measures, it is necessary to reduce the aisle widths. The maximum weight of the filled metal box is 800 kg.

The adapter plate can be picked up horizontally or vertically, either from the floor or from/into the vibrator. Lateral loading into the vibrator is necessary as space does not allow otherwise.

Our SCHURZ swivel push fork fulfills exactly this task. The boxes can be picked up from the floor in a forward swiveled position, then the metal frame is swiveled in either to the left or right and transported transverse to the direction of travel. With the vibrator, the metal frame can be pushed out to the side. In order to largely avoid collisions, lateral guide rollers are attached to the forklift chassis, which run along a longitudinal rail of the vibrators. This limits the lateral distance to the vibrator. By means of a special additional side shift, the installation depth of the metal boxes and approach differences can be compensated and use on both sides can be guaranteed.

The carrier truck is a Jungheinrich ETV 325 reach truck with a basic load capacity of 2,500 kg at 600 mm, with two additional hydraulic functions, fully hosed up to the carrier plate, plus a fully connected sideshift.

The reach truck must be adapted for this special application, which we are happy to carry out in our factory in Premstätten.

Specifically:

• Additional warning tone if the swivel push fork has sunk too low
• Locking/limiting the mast extension
• Mechanical limitation of the lifting height upwards (stability reasons
• or mast wear) and downwards so that the adapter plate does not rest on the ground and the swivel thrust fork does not rest on the wheel arms
• Reinforcement or adaptation of the lifting mast for lateral loads
• Attachment of lateral guide rollers to prevent forklift truck damage to machines and to facilitate loading/unloading into/from vibrators.
• Additional sideshift ± 150 mm instead of original stacker sideshift to ensure storage/retrieval on both sides or approach on both sides for better space utilization and better handling. The stacker’s standard side shift hydraulics are still used for this purpose.
