The hydraulic SCHURZ load holder was developed for our customer, a traditional Austrian bakery, to fit a Linde L 14 forklift truck with a basic load capacity of 1,400 kg.

designed and manufactured for LSP 600 mm.

The challenge of the project was that Euro pallets loaded with plastic crates had to be transported and stored in the cold store.

There are four plastic crates per layer on the pallet, whereby 14 layers can be stacked on top of each other. This means that a total of up to 56 plastic crates can be transported on one pallet. These crates contain packaged baking blanks. The pallet is always picked up lengthways and loaded in complete layers according to type. The height of the pallet including loading varies between 1,800 mm and max. 1,960 mm, depending on the plastic crate used.

During the current transportation and storage of pallets at a lifting height of over 5 m, stacks of crates are often knocked over or dropped. This danger, as well as the damage or contamination of the food in the crates, should be avoided with the solution from the company. ING. M. SCHURZ should be excluded as far as possible. The top shelf compartment starts at 5,300 mm. Due to the lifting height and the aisle width of 2,500 mm, handling the forklift when loaded is very challenging. There is hardly any space between the stacks of crates, so lateral clamping is not an option.

The Fa. ING. M. SCHURZ has designed and manufactured the hydraulic SCHURZ load holder as a customized product for this special case. The height adjustment of the SCHURZ load holder can be covered by the existing hydraulics of the basic vehicle. The adjustment range of the SCHURZ load holder is adapted to the height of the pallets. The two load holder arms can be folded down manually and do not interfere during normal operation. When handling crates, the load holder arms are folded up manually and secured. The SCHURZ load holder is opened hydraulically to pick up the respective pallet. Once it has been driven into the pallet, the SCHURZ load holder is closed hydraulically, securing the crates on the pallet. Not only a specially adjustable valve prevents damage to the crates, but also an additional hollow rubber on the underside of the load arms. This ensures that the entire length of the SCHURZ load holder provides a force-fit, gentle but secure support for the plastic crates, resulting in uniform pressure on the load.

When the SCHURZ load holder is no longer required, the arms can be folded back down into the mast manually. The load arms of the SCHURZ load holder therefore lie in the free space of the lift mast, without any loss of front dimensions and therefore cannot collide during conventional pallet transportation without a load holder.
