The SCHURZ drum emptying device including adaptation of the pedestrian stacker with electric and hydraulic cooling was adapted for our customer – a trading company for fuels and lubricants – in the desired design. A standard Linde L 14 pedestrian pallet truck with a basic load capacity of 1,400 kg at LSP 600 mm with FEM fork carriage served as the basic vehicle.

On the one hand, the loads are various pallets that are manipulated using the forks during normal operation, but on the other hand they are also IBC tanks with a maximum weight of 1,200 kg.

In addition, various oil drums are to be manipulated internally, picked up vertically and stored horizontally in a racking system. The existing SCHURZ drum turning device is used here. After securing the upright steel beaded drums on the SCHURZ drum turning device, they can be manually brought into the horizontal position and thus safely stored in the existing racking system. In addition, it would also be possible to empty the steel beaded drums as well as various plastic drums, thus extending the range of applications as a drum emptying device. The SCHURZ drum turning device has been adapted to the new forklift forks with new run-in shoes.

Due to the width of the various units to be transported and the mounting of the SCHURZ drum turning device, manual adjustment of the forks had to be made possible. This adjustment was made possible by attaching an FEM carrier plate with grooves adapted to the conditions and converting the standard fixed welded U forks to the carrier plate mount. The pick-up positions for the pallets or tanks and the drum turning device can now be optimally adjusted.

In addition, there was the challenge of operating the vehicle continuously for several hours in order to be able to unload or load entire truck loads without interruption. Due to this situation, additional cooling of the electric motor and the hydraulic unit is necessary. Otherwise, overheating can occur after a short time, putting people and the environment at risk and also causing increased maintenance costs.

To solve these problems, the basic unit was equipped with a SCHURZ 2-stage electric fan cooling system for the pump motor and oil unit. Once the SCHURZ high-performance cooler has been installed, the vehicle does not have to stand still for the hydraulics to cool down, which in practice guarantees continuous use of the vehicle.

The special vehicle created in this way is a multifunctional tool for our customer. The basic unit with the SCHURZ electric blower cooling system can now be used for normal operation with pallets in continuous operation, or with the SCHURZ drum turning unit as a combined unit for transporting and manipulating (standing/lying) the drums.
