One of our customers from the machine tool manufacturing sector requires the SCHURZ special PCB manipulator as an assembly aid for PCBs in control cabinet construction.
The requirement is to install the circuit boards, which can weigh up to 120 kg, safely in the control cabinets using just one person. The circuit boards are metal plates with fully assembled and wired electrical components. These are delivered horizontally to the final assembly area and then placed upright in the control cabinet and fastened with screws. The challenge lies in the different dimensions of the circuit boards and the very limited maneuvering space in the control cabinet.
Currently, the circuit boards, weighing up to 120 kg, are placed in the control cabinet using a gantry crane or several people. This work step is associated with a high risk of injury to employees due to the sharp-edged material properties of the circuit boards, and damage to the control cabinets is also very easy.
The SCHURZ circuit board manipulator is an assembly aid with a circuit board holder that is specially adapted to the entry situation of the sometimes room-high control cabinets. Bolts are attached to the end of the mounting plate. The blanks are placed vertically on these using a gantry crane, which ensures that they are held securely. The holes in the circuit boards are drilled by our customer. As the blanks could now tip over, a vertically and horizontally adjustable holding magnet is also attached to the holding device. This adjustment is required due to the pre-assembly of the PCBs, which prevents any collision with components on the PCB. The load holder is secured by means of wing nuts or tommy screws. This ensures quick adjustment by an employee. The PCB can be supported on this load holder and is additionally secured against slipping or tilting by means of magnets. As soon as the PCB is secured to the SCHURZ manipulator, it can be pushed manually to the assembly location. As the switch cabinet is located on a lifting platform, the wheel arms cannot be retracted underneath.
The SCHURZ special circuit board manipulator is equipped with specially shortened wheel arms to prevent the above-mentioned collision. The mounting plate is manufactured to the required length to ensure that it can be retracted to the rear wall of the control cabinet. It is also specially shaped to allow the PCBs to be positioned in the lower section of the enclosure. The SCHURZ workpiece manipulator can also be moved sideways manually for precise positioning of the blanks. The height is adjusted hydraulically using the drawbar or the foot pedal. As soon as the SCHURZ special high-lift stacker, including the blank, is pushed into the rear wall of the control cabinet, the employee can brake it using the wheel brake. Once the circuit board has been secured to the rear wall with the first screws, the magnetic lock is released using a lever and the mounting plate is lowered. The SCHURZ special PCB manipulator can then be pushed away again manually. Due to the special design adapted to the customer’s situation, the special blank manipulator could be handed over as a license-free version.
