This time the company ING. M. SCHURZ was commissioned by the maintenance operations of the Austrian Federal Railways to build and supply a buffer assembly device.
With this assembly device, the buffers of the wagons, which weigh up to 400 kg, can be changed safely, without effort and without damage, as even the slightest damage leads to the buffer being rejected.
At the customer’s request, a Linde electric pedestrian pallet truck was chosen as the basic vehicle. The Fa. ING. M. SCHURZ calculated and purchased an L16, which was then modified accordingly in the factory. The actual buffer manipulator was built by the company. ING. M. SCHURZ and manufactured in its own factory. This was followed by the marriage to the SCHURZ buffer assembly device. After the in-house FEM stability tests and re-typing, the complete device could be delivered. In addition to the classic standard functions of the pedestrian stacker, the assembly device now has a hydraulic clamp function with safety circuit to safely pick up and manipulate the buffer. The pedestrian pallet truck was also equipped with LED headlights to ensure safe operation at night.
In addition to hydraulic clamping, the attached SCHURZ buffer manipulator has three manually operated adjustment options. After the SCHURZ assembly vehicle with clamped buffer has been moved roughly into the correct position, fine positioning for buffer assembly can now be carried out. If the buffer is driven at an angle to the wagon, it can be turned parallel to the wagon again using the hand crank. Lateral deviations of up to 630 mm can also be compensated for using the hand crank. The height is adjusted using the forklift lift. If the screw connections are now aligned, the buffer can also be pushed forward onto the bolts by 400 mm using the hand crank. This positioning is carried out directly by the assembly personnel and is therefore visible in the assembly area. The buffers are removed in reverse order. The clamping surfaces are fitted with replaceable plastic plates. This makes it possible to manipulate the loads without scratching them.
