Our customer from Switzerland needs to clamp foam blocks of different sizes and weights of up to 290 kg and manipulate them using a column-mounted slewing crane. The blocks need to be lifted from the floor onto a roller conveyor and vice versa without causing damage.
For this case, the SCHURZ foam gripper was designed and manufactured, which can be picked up using a crane hook. The SCHURZ block grab is lifted and lowered using the electric chain hoist of the company’s existing column-mounted slewing crane. Once the correct position has been found and the back of the SCHURZ foam gripper is in contact with the bale, it can now be clamped. The horizontal movements for clamping the foam blocks are carried out by the moving arms of the SCHURZ foam gripper. The clamping movement is purely electrical, whereby the clamping stops automatically at the preset clamping force to prevent any damage to the foam blocks. It is now possible to manipulate the clamped foam block to the desired location.
The power supply including control is self-sufficient by means of battery operation. It is operated in 2 manual modes using buttons on handles provided for this purpose. The extremely low overall height, which was required by the customer, is achieved by a special arm kinematics in pendulum design.
