This project can also be found in the “Special machine construction” section under “Crane lifting technology”. It consists of the SCHURZ H lifting beam and two SCHURZ crane lifting platforms. They are used for the internal transportation of different paper rolls. The rolls have a diameter of 900 – 1,300 mm, a maximum height of 1,200 mm and a maximum weight of 1,000 kg.
The paper rolls are produced on the upper floor of the company and are normally transported by forklift and paper roll clamp to the freight elevator for storage in the basement. However, the freight elevator is now being replaced and will therefore not be operational for several months.
In order to bridge this period, the company ING. M. SCHURZ designed and manufactured two SCHURZ lifting platforms, including a SCHURZ lifting beam. The first SCHURZ platform is now loaded using a forklift truck and the load is secured by the removable stanchions. These stanchions can be individually inserted into the holes provided, depending on the roller diameter. In addition, both SCHURZ lifting platforms are equipped with lashing eyes to secure the rollers. Once the first SCHURZ crane lifting platform has been loaded, it is suspended from the SCHURZ lifting beam via the 4 strand chains in order to transport the reels to the lower floor, where they are unloaded again. In the meantime, the second SCHURZ crane lifting platform can be loaded again with the next paper rolls, ensuring an efficient transportation process.
Both SCHURZ transport platforms were equipped with run-in shoes to enable them to be maneuvered quickly and easily to the desired position using a forklift. In addition, the string chain of the SCHURZ crane spreader beam was designed with a length of 6 m to allow the lifting range of the crane into the cellar.
